Castor Oil

Castor Oil

Ricinus communis

Approximately 90% ricinoleic acid, a rare hydroxyl fatty acid with documented occlusive, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory effects at the skin surface.

Recorded in the Ebers Papyrus, circa 1550 BCE, and documented by Dioscorides in De Materia Medica, it has been used for wound healing and skin protection. In Ayurvedic medicine it is known as Eranda and prescribed for inflammatory skin conditions.

Anchors moisture in the formulation, slows transepidermal water loss, and contributes to the butter’s texture and slip.
